EQUINE Tip of the Month:
Avoid heat stroke with a few precautions. Provide ample fresh, clean water. Check buckets or troughs regularly and remove any contaminates and verify all horses have access to the water.
Identify heat stress in a horse before it becomes heat stroke. Move horses that exhibit signs of heat stress to shady, well ventilated areas and spray cool water on the animal’s legs. If heat stress progresses to heat stroke the owner should call a veterinarian immediately to avoid a life threatening situation.
