As a young boy growing up in Eden, Idaho Mike Standlee could not have envisioned the modern day Standlee Hay facility. Mike’s mother and father kept their five children busy working in the hay fields and learning the meaning of a strong work ethic. That vision began when Mike and his brothers graduated from Valley High School. Mike bought a swather from his father and Lynn Standlee, his brother, bought a stacker and they were in the hay business! The brothers worked together in the custom hay business and in the horse business for many years.

Mike and Whendy Standlee were married in 1979 in Twin Falls, Idaho and moved back to Eden, Idaho to be near their family. With $500 in their pocket, they started their own business and the Standlee Hay Company, Inc. legacy began. With an old Peterbilt truck, a used swather and baler, Mike put up enough hay to market to the Eastern States. Mike’s vision to grow a market in the East required land and in 1990 he purchased his first farm of 240 acres. In 1991 Mike purchased a big bale press and proceeded to open these new markets. In 2001 he put in a 108,000 square foot hay facility that included; a big bale press, cuber, pelleter, bagger, and cottonseed piler.

Standlee Hay Company, Inc. now owns thousands of acres of carefully managed alfalfa, timothy grass and orchard grass hay. We have added a 34,000 square foot building to bring the facility to 142,000 square feet. That installation included a Hunterwood Press to process 65 pound bales which helped to increase and expand our international customers.
